Kilimanjaro Lemosho Route

Direct arrival at Mountain Inn. Pre-climb briefing on trek and overnight Mountain Inn [D]

Start climb at Lemosho Glades (2100m) through the forest zone. Trekking time: 3-4 hours, approx. 7km distance. Overnight Mti Mkubwa Camp (2780m) [B,L,D]

Continue through the forest, steeply climbing into the heather and moorland zone, crossing the Shira Ridge, and descending into the Shira Plateau. Trekking time: 4-5 hours, approx. 7-8km distance. Overnight Shira One Camp (3500m) [B,L,D]

A slow paced hike across the Shira Plateau through the heather and moorland. Trekking time: 3-5 hours, approx. 6km distance. Overnight Shira Two Camp (3900m) [B,L,D]

Continue trekking east past the junction for Oehler ridge and then south-east towards Lava Tower. Trekking time: 7-8 hours, approx. 10km distance. Overnight Barranco Camp (3960m) [B,L,D]

This is an additional day for acclimatisation where you will enter the alpine desert zone and climb up the Barranco Wall. Trekking time: 3-5 hours, approx. 6km distance. Overnight Karanga Camp (4035m) [B,L,D]

Continue east towards Mweka junction where you will turn north to the next campsite. Trekking time: 3-4 hours, approx. 4km distance. Overnight Barafu Camp (4650m) [B,L,D]

Around mid-night, start for the summit to Stella Point (5740m) and then continue to Uhuru Peak (5895m). Descend via Barafu Campsite and then into the heather and moorland. Trekking time: 13-15 hours, approx. 19km distance. Overnight Mweka Camp (3080m) [B,L,D]

Continue your descent through the forest zone of the mountain to Mweka Gate (1680m). Transfer to Moshi. Trekking time: 3-4 hours, approx. 10km distance. Overnight Mountain Inn [B,D]
